JOB DESCRIPTION/ANNOUNCEMENT
for the position of
COMPLETE Skate Program Coordinator [San Diego]


PROGRAM: CS Afterschool Programs ENTRY WAGE: $15.00 hourly
OPEN: Immediately CLOSE: 3/12/09
SUPERVISOR: Ryan Pederson, COMPLETE Skate Executive Director
FTE: .50 (20 hours/week) TEMPORARY POSITION/NO BENEFITS


JOB SUMMARY: In coordination with Executive Director, the Program Coordinator
assists in planning and implementing COMPLETE Skate Afterschool Programs at high schools in the San Diego area. (Impact NW is the Fiscal Sponsor of COMPLETE Skate.)



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with school counselors, administrators and teachers
  • Oversee volunteers working as instructors
  • Manage volunteers working as mentors
  • Manage in-kind donations
Divvy up inventory between sites
Maintain records of gear earned
Maintain records of gear received, receipts given to donors

  • Manage transportation
License and insurance required
Bi-weekly or monthly trips to skateparks and other activities in the community

  • Manage tutoring component among multiple sites
  • Manage data collection among sites [school attendance, program attendance, teacher communication re: classwork + attitude, behavior reports] in collaboration with point system/program objectives
  • Manage student information among sites [program goals, assignments, etc.]
  • Deliver counseling curriculum to students in a classroom setting
  • Create goal setting contracts with program participants
  • Organize culminating event involving students from all program sites
  • Manage service learning opportunities for participants
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Effectively works with individuals of diverse backgrounds


REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in community organizing, education, counseling or related field;
  • Knowledge of the targeted schools’ community geographic area;
  • Minimum of four years experience in program development, human service planning and/or community development;
  • One year supervisory and program oversight experience.
  • Be self-directed, positive adults with clean driving record and access to transportation
  • Possess excellent communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Have a strong understanding of developing relationships of mutual respect with students, in an effort to teach accountability through choice
  • Naturally model and teach positive adult qualities
  • Possess teaching and/or counseling experience
  • Possess experience skateboarding and general knowledge of skateboards
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from divers lifestyles and cultures
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of COMPLETE Skate and the schools’ community


PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual and cross cultural knowledge and skills.


THIS JOB ALSO REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Repetitive motion, prolonged sitting and extensive visual involvement
  • Frequent climbing of stairs
  • Ability to efficiently travel in order to perform duties and other agency related errands
  • Moderate lifting
